For many Norfolk residents, spring cleanup has begun – and the County has a number of programs coming up to help keep your property in tip-top shape.

Household Hazardous Waste

Registration is now open for Norfolk County’s spring Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Event in Simcoe, which takes place at the Facilities Building (591 Norfolk St. S) on Saturday, April 23, from 9am-2pm.

The second event is in Delhi and will be held at the Norfolk County Works Yard (340 Argyle St.) on Saturday, May 21, from 9am-2pm – with registration opening April 21, at noon.Materials accepted at HHW events include; batteries, insecticides, pharmaceuticals, and propane tanks. Bulky Item Pick Up

For residents looking to remove large items such as appliances, furniture and fixtures, the bulky item collection has a number of  appointments available throughout the year – with the next collection  occurring April 18 to 22.Registration for those dates closes April 14, at noon.

The cost per pick-up is $25.50 – and can be booked and pre-paid through ServiceNorfolk by calling 519-426-5870 or 226-NORFOLK ext. 0. The maximum load size is two cubic meters (the approximate size of a pickup truck box).

 

Leaf and Yard Waste

The Leaf and Yard Waste program runs continually from April until November in three urban zones: Zone 1 (Long Point and Simcoe), Zone 2 (Port Dover, Langton, Port Rowan) and Zone 3 (Turkey Point, Vittoria, St. Williams, Courtland, Delhi, Waterford).

All yard waste must be placed curbside with regular collection in brown paper leaf bags, tops rolled shut. Weight must be no heavier than 18kg or 40lbs. Trimmings must be tied and bundled, in maximum 3-foot lengths.

Transfer Stations

The South Walsingham Transfer Station opens for the season April 1. Located at 1180 3rd Concession, Port Rowan, operating hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. until 3:45 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Accepted items include metal, wood, and tires (tipping fees may apply). Forms of payment include debit and credit only – cash is not accepted. For more information, visit the Transfer Station Webpage.
