Norfolk County’s Bulky Item Pick-up Program is set to roll out throughout June. The program is for items generated by a household that are too large to fit into a regular-sized garbage bag.

The collection dates are as follows:

        • June 1 – 5 – Zone A (Ward 5)
        • June 8 – 12 – Zone B (Wards 6 and 7)
        • June 15 – 19 – Zone C (Wards 3 and 4)
        • June 22 – 26 – Zone D (Wards 1 and 2)

Items must be placed curbside by 7 a.m. on Monday of the zone’s designated week as pick up may not occur on the zone’s regular collection day.

Piles must be only two cubic metres or one pickup truckload of large items per household. Items must be able to be lifted by two people.

Acceptable items include:

        • Appliances such as stoves, microwaves
        • Furniture such as sofas, couches, desks, chairs, tables, rugs, patio furniture, bedsprings, mattresses, bed frames
        • Fixtures such as bathtubs, toilets, sinks
        • Household items such as water heater, bicycles, barbeques (without propane tanks), and any other large articles which would normally come from a household
        • Carpet or pool covers, rolled & tied (Max 4’ L x 2’ D, able to be lifted by 2 people)
        • Hot tubs & pianos if broken down.
        • Refrigerators, air conditioners, dehumidifiers or any other appliance containing Freon require an “Ozone Depletion Prevention Tag” attached.

The Bulky Item Pick-up Program is convenient, simple and helps reduce illegal dumping. In addition to being unsightly, illegal dumping could contaminate soil and water, disrupt wildlife, and become a fire hazard.  Norfolk’s Public Works Divison spends considerable resources each year retrieving illegally dumped garbage and bulky items from ditches and woodlots along the county’s roads.

As a reminder, bulky items can be taken to one of Norfolk County’s transfer stations year round. Tipping fees apply.
