The time has almost come to enjoy Norfolk County’s first-ever Community Day.

County staff, along with a host of community sponsors and groups have come together to provide a day of fun for everyone across the municipality June 18

Facilities such as community centres, museums, libraries, fire halls, pools, arenas, parks, and breweries will welcome residents to attend free recreational and socio-cultural activities throughout the day.

“This initiative has been a home run from the start,” said Norfolk County Mayor Kristal Chopp. “It’s going to be amazing to see our community unite like this, and the timing couldn’t be better. I encourage everyone in Norfolk to get out and see what’s happening.”

The schedule includes meet-and-greets with councilors and award-winning illusionist/Port Dover native Lucas Wilson, storytime for the kids, a chance to try something new (swimming, pickleball etc.), exciting scavenger hunts, spring skating, concerts by the lake, sandcastle building, museum exhibits, and much, much more.

Media, and members of the public are invited to join Mayor Chopp at the official ribbon-cutting at the Simcoe Recreation Centre (182 South Dr, Simcoe) June 18 from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. Associated activities will be offered both at the Simcoe Seniors’ Centre and Delhi Friendship Centre. In addition, other events are being connected such as the Strawberry Festival in Delhi.

“We wanted to give the community something to rally around and our partners have delivered,” said Brandon Sloan. “Seeing so many businesses and groups immediately step forward shows how much community spirit is in Norfolk and how committed everyone is to putting on a tremendous event.”
