February 16, 2024 – Norfolk County is reminding residents of changes to programs and facility closures on Family Day, Monday, February 19. While many buildings, programs, and services are not open or running, there are several recreational opportunities for community members of all ages.

Family Day Programs:

Family Day Swim 

The Annaleise Carr Aquatic Centre is offering a special swim schedule on Monday, February 19, with two free swims sponsored by the Simcoe and District Real Estate Board; a family swim from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and a public swim from 1 to 2:30 p.m. There are additional swims scheduled throughout the day. Free Skates in Port Dover

The Port Dover Lions are sponsoring three skates this weekend at the Port Dover Arena. A public skate will be held on Saturday, February 17 from 3 to 4 p.m. On Monday, February 19 there will be a parent and tot skate from 9 to 10 a.m. and a public skate from 2 to 3:30 p.m. All sponsored skates are free of charge.

Free Skate in Delhi

Realtor Dezi Gebel is sponsoring a public skate at the Delhi Arena on Monday, February 19 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Free of charge.

Free Skate in Langton

The Long Point Lioness Lions are sponsoring a public skate at the Langton Arena on Monday, February 19 from 12 to 1 p.m. Free of charge.

Family Day Weekend Skates

From Saturday, February 17 to Monday, February 19, a variety of skates have been scheduled at arenas across Norfolk County. Visit NorfolkCounty.ca/Skating for the Family Day weekend schedule. Normal fees apply.

 

Closures and schedule changes:

County Administration Buildings
All public buildings will be closed Monday, February 19, reopening Tuesday, February 20.

Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit
All branches will be closed Monday, February 19, reopening Tuesday, February 20. For public health emergencies or hazards, such as outbreaks, food poisoning, meningitis, or rabies, please call the after-hours emergency phone number at 1-877-298-5888.

Social Services and Housing
Both Simcoe and Dunnville office locations will be closed Monday, February 19, reopening Tuesday, February 20.  For crisis support, such as emergency accommodation, call the Victim Services Support Line at 1-800-264-6671.

Heritage and Culture
All museums and Norfolk County Archives will be closed Monday, February 19, returning to regular hours on Tuesday, February 20.

Norfolk County Public Library
All branches will be closed on Monday, February 19, reopening Tuesday, February 20.

Ride Norfolk
Ride Norfolk will not be in operation on Monday, February 19, returning to regular service on Tuesday, February 20.

ServiceNorfolk
ServiceNorfolk will be closed on Monday, February 19, returning to regular hours on Tuesday, February 20. Residents may email [email protected], staff will reply to emails in a priority sequence when offices reopen.  Residents may also visit the Norfolk County Customer Service Portal online at any time.

Residents seeking emergency assistance regarding forestry, parks and facilities, public health, roads, water, sewer, and drainage, can call 1-877-298-5888. For after-hours By-law Enforcement, the public may use the OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) non-emergency line number at 1-888-310-1122.

Transfer Stations
Transfer stations will be closed on Monday, February 19, with the Simcoe Transfer Station returning to regular hours on Tuesday, February 20 and the South Walsingham Transfer Station returning to regular hours on Wednesday, February 21.

Waste collection
Waste collection will be delayed one day throughout the week of February 19, except in Simcoe. Residents are encouraged to use the Recycle Coach app for instant access to their area’s collection schedule, personalized reminders, and more. The free app is available on the iTunes Store and the Google Play Store. 

Essential and critical services
Fire and Paramedic Services will continue to operate as usual.
