Residents can register for Norfolk’s spring Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) events starting Wednesday, March 20.  

Spring events are happening in Simcoe on Saturday, April 20, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 591 Norfolk Street South and in Delhi on Saturday, May 25, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 340 Argyle Avenue.  

Online registration opens Wednesday, March 20, at noon and is required to participate. To reserve a time, visit norfolkcounty.ca/HHW and follow the information on the pop-up. 

Hazardous waste materials are harmful to humans, animals, and the environment and should be disposed of properly. 

Accepted items include: 

  • Aerosol cans 
  • Batteries (all types) 
  • Household cleaners and disinfectants 
  • Fluorescent tubes and bulbs 
  • Propane tanks (20lb) and cylinders 
  • Gasoline, oil, and oil filters 
  • Pharmaceuticals, syringes 
  • Paints, varnishes, and stains 
  • Pesticides and insecticides 
  • Pool chemicals 

Items NOT accepted include: 

  • Any hazardous material in containers larger than 20L (5 gallons) 
  • Agricultural, commercial, or industrial waste 
  • PCBs 
  • Explosives 
  • Radioactive waste 

Norfolk County no longer collects electronic waste at HHW Events. Three area businesses accept e-waste and are listed on Norfolk County’s retailer take-back site. 

Appointment times are 30 minutes long and more than one vehicle is scheduled during each timeslot. Please be patient, as the opportunity to unload will be at any time during those 30 minutes. 

Can’t make it to the spring events? Registration for fall HHW events on Saturday, September 28, in Simcoe, and Saturday, October 19, in Langton opens on Wednesday, August 28.
