Ministry of Natural Resources

Norfolk County would like to thank MNR for the work done thus far on the Forestry Farm Road (FFR) Gas Well, however continued efforts are required for this extensive project, which continues to grow as an environmental and health concern for nearby residents. More work and research is needed to find a permanent solution. Norfolk County will continue to partner with the Province in pursuit of a solution that meets the needs of all stakeholders.

Where we're at

Norfolk County has a better understanding of the issue however we do not yet have a permanent solution.

The scientific work has identified a more viable path forward, but Norfolk needs the Province to help fund, coordinate and manage the next phase of remediation. The County cannot afford to be left carrying responsibility for a historic abandoned gas-well problem that requires provincial technical expertise, regulatory authority and significant funding.

Norfolk asks that:

  • The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) and Ministry of Environment, Conservations and Parks (MECP) continue to work collaboratively on the Forestry Farm Road (FFR) Gas Well.
  • Continue to financially support all costs to permanently remedy the issue at FFR.

Norfolk is ready.

We can grow Ontario, together.
