Heat Warning issued for Norfolk County

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a Heat Warning for Norfolk County with dangerously hot and humid conditions expected. A Heat Warning is issued when daytime temperatures reach 31°C or higher, overnight lows remain at 20°C or higher, or the humidex exceeds 40, for two or more consecutive days. These conditions can pose serious health risks, especially for vulnerable populations.

Grand Erie Public Health is urging residents and visitors to take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses. While everyone is at risk during extreme heat, certain groups are more vulnerable, including older adults, infants and young children, people with chronic health conditions, those who work or exercise outdoors, individuals experiencing homelessness, and low-income households without access to air conditioning.

Symptoms of heat-related illness may include dizziness, fainting, headache, nausea or vomiting, weakness, confusion, and rapid breathing or heartbeat. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should seek medical attention immediately.

To help residents stay cool and safe, the following facilities in Norfolk County may be available as cooling spaces. Please note that access is based on each location’s regular operating schedule.
