Waste cart deliveries begin August 24 as Norfolk County prepares for new waste collection program
Norfolk County will begin delivering new garbage and organic waste carts to more than 30,000 properties starting Monday, August 24, 2026, as the municipality prepares to launch its new cart-based waste collection program on Monday, September 28, 2026.
New collection schedule
Under the new waste program:
- Organic waste will be collected every week using the new green carts
- Recycling will be collected every week using existing recycling boxes
- Garbage will be collected every other week (bi-weekly) using the new grey carts
Residents can use an online collection schedule tool at norfolkcounty.ca/CollectionDay, to find out if their property is the Week 1 or Week 2 garbage collection zone and display their next garbage collection date.
This online tool will also confirm their collection day of the week (e.g., Mondays). Properties in some areas, including most properties in the town of Waterford and the Silver Lake area of Port Dover, will have a new collection day when the program begins on Monday, September 28, 2026.
Residents may also contact ServiceNorfolk for assistance in confirming their collection day and garbage collection week.
Carts are required for collection
The carts are designed to work with new automated collection vehicles that use an automated arm to pick up waste.
Property owners cannot opt out of receiving the carts. Once the new program begins on Monday, September 28, 2026, waste must be placed inside the County-issued carts for collection. Waste set outside of the garbage or organics carts will not be collected.
Commercial properties must register to participate in the new curbside waste collection program. There is no cost to register. Registration will reopen on September 28, 2026.
Residents can continue to use their current recycling boxes for weekly recycling collection.
Cart delivery schedule
Waste cart deliveries will take place over several weeks and may occur at any time during the delivery window. Property owners do not need to be home during delivery.
A small kitchen container used for collecting food scraps will be placed inside the green organics cart. Property owners are encouraged to look inside their green cart after delivery for their kitchen container.
Unfortunately, Norfolk County cannot accommodate requests for specific delivery dates or alternative pick-up options.
Delivery dates are approximate and may be affected by weather, traffic, or operational requirements.
If a property does not receive its carts within the delivery timeframe, property owners are encouraged to contact ServiceNorfolk for assistance.

Delivery and collection operations
Residents are asked to give delivery and collection crews the space they need to work safely and efficiently as waste carts are delivered across Norfolk County and the new collection program is implemented.
Using the new carts
Residents are encouraged to review information about how to use their carts before the new program launches. Details can be found in a printed information kit that will be attached to each cart, or at norfolkcounty.ca/WasteChanges.
Beginning December 1, 2026, cart change requests will be available again for residential and commercial property owners at no charge. Information about cart options and how to submit a request will be available closer to that date. Beginning April 1, 2027, a $50 fee will apply to cart change requests.
