Temporary closure of Lynn Valley Trail for erosion repairs
Norfolk County is advising residents of an upcoming temporary closure of a section of the Lynn Valley Trail (LVT) in Simcoe to allow for necessary erosion repair work.
The closure will affect the section of trail between Norfolk Street South and the Rotary Bridge near the Brook Conservation Area trails.
Timeline
Anticipated start date
Thursday, October 29
Anticipated end date
Thursday, November 19
The trail section is expected to remain closed for approximately two to three weeks. The timeline is subject to weather conditions and contractor availability.
Why is the work necessary?
Erosion along the bank adjacent to the trail has resulted in significant washout, creating a potential public safety concern and threatening the long-term stability of the trail.
Work will include:
- Removal of select trees and vegetation to provide construction access and address encroachment along the trail.
- Repairs to the eroded bank to stabilize the area and prevent further washout.
- Restoration and reseeding of disturbed areas.
- Additional planting of native shrubs in 2027 to provide further long-term bank stabilization.
Crews will take precautions to minimize impacts to the existing paved trail surface. Any damage resulting from construction activities will be assessed and addressed as part of the restoration work.
Trail closure and construction access
For public safety, the affected section of the Lynn Valley Trail will be closed to all trail users during construction. Temporary fencing and signage will be installed to restrict access to the work area.
The southern portion of the Memorial Ball Park property will also be used as a construction staging and access area. This area will be temporarily closed to public use during construction. The ball diamond itself is not part of the construction staging area.
Trail users wishing to access unaffected portions of the Lynn Valley Trail toward Port Dover are encouraged to use the trail access at Victoria Street.
A map identifying the affected areas and trail closure limits will accompany this notice.
Updates
Norfolk County recognizes the importance of the Lynn Valley Trail to residents and visitors and appreciates the public's patience while these important repairs are completed.
Additional information regarding the confirmed construction schedule and any changes to the anticipated closure duration will be shared as it becomes available.
