Official statement from Norfolk County Council on the recent breach of confidential correspondence
Norfolk County Council, in conjunction with its Chief Administrative Office, released the following statement regarding the Breach of Confidential Correspondence discussed at the Special Council Meeting on May 20, 2025:
“Norfolk County Council remains steadfast in our commitment to accountability and ethical leadership. As elected officials, we recognize the importance of public trust and remain dedicated to upholding the highest standards of conduct at all times.
We reiterate that the recent breach of confidential information reported in the media did not originate from Norfolk County staff. Our team continues to act with professionalism, discretion, and in full accordance with legislative and ethical standards. We are united in our responsibility to lead with professionalism, transparency, and respect for due process in all matters affecting our community.”
Norfolk County’s Chief Administrative Officer added:
“Despite recent unsubstantiated media reports, following our Special Council meeting, quoting an individual that the breach may have emanated from Norfolk staff, there is no evidence presented to confirm such claims. I remain confident in the conclusions reached by the independent investigation that Norfolk staff were not responsible for the breach and look forward to the Integrity Commissioner’s final report. My focus remains singularly in the integrity and reputation of Norfolk staff.”
