Notice of Study Commencement Simcoe Wastewater Treatment Plant – Biosolids Management Upgrade Municipal Class Environmental Assessment
Norfolk County (County) has initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) for the Simcoe Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). The Norfolk County Integrated Sustainable Master Plan (ISMP), finalized in September 2016, identified upgrades to the Simcoe WWTP’s solids handling processes, including utilizing biosolids storage tanks at the Simcoe WWTP to store biosolids from Port Dover and Port Rowan WWTPs based on a planning horizon year of 2041.
The purpose of this study is to review and update the proposed upgrades in the ISMP based on best available technologies and updated regulatory compliance requirements for biosolids management servicing needs projected to 2051 at County-wide level. A map of the study area is provided in Figure 1.
This Study is being undertaken in accordance with the requirements for Schedule ‘B’ projects within the Municipal Class EA document (2000, as amended), under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act.
How can I participate in this Study?
Public consultation is an essential component of the Class EA process, and we welcome your feedback. Norfolk County plans to host a Public Information Centre (PIC) during the study. The PIC will provide background information on the study, compare the alternative solutions, and compare the alternative design concepts to identify a preliminary preferred design concept to be implemented.
Information on the PIC will be provided closer to the event date and made available on the County’s Public Notices page.
If you would like more information about the study or would like to be added to the contact list to receive future notices, please contact:
