Notice of pesticide use, September and October 2026
The Corporation of Norfolk County intends to control noxious weeds along all rural roadside
guide rails and guide cables within its boundaries.
Norfolk County intends to apply pesticides within municipal road allowances along selected rural roadsides to control the invasive plant European common reed
(Phragmites australis).
The following pesticides, registered under the Pest Control Products Act (Canada), may be used:
- VisionMAX Silviculture Herbicide (PCP Registration No. 27736), containing the active ingredient glyphosate, present as potassium salt; and
- ARSENAL PowerLine Herbicide (PCP Registration No. 30203), containing the active ingredient imazapyr, present as isopropylamine salt.
Applications within drainage ditches will be limited to terrestrial areas where no surface water is present.
The pesticide use will be carried out under the public works exception to the cosmetic pesticide ban, under paragraph 4 of subsection 7.1(2) of the Pesticides Act, for the promotion of health or safety.
Pesticide applications are scheduled to begin no earlier than August 31, 2026, and will be completed by October 31, 2026. The commencement date is approximate and is subject to weather and suitable application conditions.
