Norfolk to observe National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Tuesday, September 30
In recognition of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, Norfolk County will raise the ‘Survivor Flag’ on Monday, September 29 at the County Administration Building in Simcoe, where it will remain until Wednesday, October 1.
This day recognizes and honours the experiences of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Survivors, along with their families and communities. It serves as a powerful reminder of the need to acknowledge the history and lasting impacts of residential schools, and the importance of public reflection as part of the ongoing reconciliation journey.
In observance of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, the following is a list of impacted programs, services and closures:
County Administration Buildings
All County administration buildings will be closed.
Emergency, Essential and Critical Services
Fire and Paramedic Services will continue to operate as usual.
Court Closures
All courts, including the Provincial Offences Court at the Robinson Administration Building in Simcoe, will be closed.
Social Services and Housing
All Social Services and Housing offices will be closed.
Heritage and Culture
All museums and Norfolk County Archives will be closed.
Norfolk County Public Library
Norfolk County Public Library will be closed on Tuesday, September 30 in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day provides an opportunity to reflect on the legacy of residential schools, honour survivors and their families, and support ongoing efforts toward reconciliation.
Throughout September, all NCPL branches will feature educational displays and a reader’s advisory booklet to encourage learning and reflection. The booklet is also available online at ncpl.ca, under Current Events.
NCPL’s digital resources—including eBooks, audiobooks, online learning, and streaming media—remain available 24/7 at www.ncpl.ca.
Recreation
The Simcoe Recreation Centre, including the Annaleise Carr Aquatic Centre and Simcoe Seniors’ Centre, Delhi Friendship Centre, and all County Arenas will be closed. The Delhi Afterschool Program will run as scheduled.
The Simcoe Recreation Centre and Simcoe Seniors’ Centre will close on Wednesday, October 1 and the Annaleise Carr Aquatic Centre will close beginning Saturday, October 4, for the Norfolk County Fair. The facility will reopen in stages, beginning with the Aquatic Centre on Wednesday, October 15, followed by the Simcoe Seniors Centre on Thursday, October 16, and the multi-purpose floor on Friday, October 17.
Ride Norfolk
Ride Norfolk will operate with regular service hours on Tuesday, September 30.
ServiceNorfolk
ServiceNorfolk will be closed. Regular hours will resume on Wednesday, October 1.
Residents can submit non-urgent service requests or general inquiries anytime through Service.NorfolkCounty.ca.
For urgent issues related to forestry, parks and facilities, roads, water, sewer, waste, or drainage, please call 1-877-298-5888.
By-law concerns during the closure can be directed to the OPP non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122.
Transfer Stations
Transfer stations will be open regular hours on Tuesday, September 30.
Waste Collection
There will be no delay in waste collection this week. Residents are encouraged to use the Recycle Coach app for instant access to their area’s collection schedule, personalized reminders, and more. The app is available on the iTunes Store and the Google Play Store, free of charge.
