Norfolk Fire Department hosts specialized fire training unit
This week the Norfolk County Fire Department gained access to a state-of-the-art Mobile Live Fire Training Unit (MLFTU), to help enhance its firefighter training capabilities.
This advanced training resource from the province significantly improves the department’s ability to provide hands-on firefighter training. It is part of the province’s plan to expand and modernize firefighting training, bringing high-quality, hands-on instruction to fire services without dedicated training facilities.
MLFTU is a state-of-the-art mobile facility designed to simulate realistic fire scenarios in a controlled environment. Its modular design allows for various training scenarios, ensuring versatile training experiences.
Key features of the MLFTU include:
- Multiple Training Areas: Can simulate diverse fire scenarios, such as pre-flashover conditions, kitchen fires, basement fires, and second-story fires requiring laddering.
- Realistic Props: Includes standpipe connections, a sprinkler system, and a simulated living room with a couch.
- Roof Prop for Ventilation Training: Provides training in proper ventilation techniques.
- Meets NFPA Standards: Complies with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) training standards.
The MLFTU will be used for ongoing training sessions and certification programs, benefiting both new recruits and veteran firefighters. It bridges the gap between classroom learning and real-life application, fostering greater confidence and competence among our personnel.
The Norfolk County Fire Department extends its gratitude to the province and the community for their continued support. The investment in the MLFTU underscores the shared commitment to public safety and the professional development of Norfolk firefighters.
