Norfolk County temporarily stops tire drop-off at transfer stations

Norfolk County is temporarily stopping tire drop-off at the Simcoe Transfer Station and South Walsingham Transfer Station effective immediately due to collection delays under Ontario’s provincial tire recycling program.

Tires are currently being stored at the County’s two transfer stations, exceeding safe storage limits and creating operational and safety concerns.

Norfolk County has historically accepted tires through Ontario’s Extended Producer Responsibility program to support responsible disposal and help reduce illegal dumping. Due to ongoing province-wide collection delays and no confirmed pickup date despite repeated efforts by County staff and program partners, tire acceptance has been temporarily suspended until the current stockpile is removed.

Residents looking to dispose of tires are encouraged to use RPRA’s Where to Recycle tool to find alternative collection locations and should contact locations in advance to confirm acceptance.

Norfolk County will continue working with the Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO), eTracks  to have the current stockpile removed and will resume accepting tires once a reliable collection service has been re-established.

Norfolk County appreciates residents’ understanding as this province-wide issue is addressed.
