Norfolk County shares information for voters and candidates ahead of October 2026 Municipal Election
Norfolk County is pleased to provide voters and candidates with early details about the 2026 Municipal Election. Key details, resources, dates, and more are now available online at norfolkcounty.ca/vote, the official source of Norfolk County election news and information.
Candidate Information Night
Those considering running for Mayor, Municipal Council, or School Board Trustee in the October 2026 election are encouraged to attend an information session hosted by the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing and the Norfolk County Clerk. The event takes place on Thursday, April 9, 2026, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., in Council Chambers, located on the second floor of the County Administration Building, at 50 Colborne Street South in Simcoe.
The session will provide an overview of the municipal election process, including eligibility requirements, key dates, nomination procedures, and campaign rules. Participants will also have the opportunity to ask election staff questions.
Individuals who are unable to attend in person may participate virtually. To register, contact the Elections Office before 4:30 p.m. on April 8, by phone at 519-426-5870 or 226-NORFOLK, extension 6269, or by email at elections@norfolkcounty.ca.
The nomination period for the 2026 municipal election begins May 1, 2026.
Online voting: New for 2026
Online voting—new to Norfolk County for the 2026 municipal election—will be available from Friday, October 9, to Friday, October 23, 2026. Online voting enables electors to cast their ballots from a computer or mobile device anywhere over the internet during the designated advanced voting period.
In-person voting
In-person voting will happen on Monday, October 26, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Polling station locations for each Ward will be shared on the County website ahead of the election.
Election help centres
During the online advanced voting period, Norfolk County will have several in-person locations set up to assist with online voting. There will also be an opportunity at these locations to vote using paper ballots as an advance voting option.
Eligible voters
Voters must be 18 years of age or older; a Canadian citizen; and either a resident of the municipality, a non-resident who owns or rents property in the municipality, or the spouse of an owner or tenant of property in the municipality.
Voters’ list
Eligible voters can confirm, add, or update their information on the Ontario voters’ List at registertovoteon.ca.
Voters can also confirm or update their school support designation on the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) website, mpac.ca.
