Norfolk County Mourns the Passing of Former Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion

Norfolk County joins the country in grieving the loss of Hazel McCallion, former mayor of Mississauga, who passed away this morning at 101 years of age.

Known affectionately as “Hurricane Hazel”, McCallion was one of Canada’s longest-serving mayors, with 12 consecutive terms as Mayor of Mississauga.

“Hazel McCallion was a role model for many and a trailblazer for women in the political realm. Hazel’s work ethic and inspirational leadership skills are demonstrated by her decades of committed and tireless service to her city,” says Mayor Amy Martin. “On behalf of Council and Norfolk County residents, we share our condolences with Hazel’s family, friends, and the people of Mississauga. May she Rest in Peace.”
