Norfolk County honours Remembrance Day on Tuesday, November 11
In recognition of Remembrance Day on Tuesday, November 11, Norfolk County will join Canadians across the country to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who have served and continue to serve our country during times of war, military conflict, and peace.
Ceremonies will be held in communities across Norfolk County, and residents are encouraged to attend a local service or take a moment to reflect on the contributions of veterans and active service members.
Remembrance Day ceremonies
The following will take place on Tuesday, November 11:
- Delhi: Cenotaph on King Street – 11:00 a.m.
- Fairground: Cenotaph – 11:00 a.m.
- Port Dover: Cenotaph in Powell Park – 11:00 a.m.
- Port Rowan: Cenotaph on Lakeshore Road, west of Ellis Street – 11:00 a.m.
- Simcoe: Carillon Tower – 11:00 a.m.
- St. Williams: Cenotaph on Townline Street and Queen Street – 11:30 a.m.
- Waterford: Cenotaph at Old Town Hall – 11:00 a.m.
A march and wreath-laying in Teeterville will take place on Sunday, November 9 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Port Rowan will also hold a service and wreath-laying inside the community centre at 11:00 a.m. that day.
Remembrance Day events hosted by Royal Canadian Legion Branches take place in communities across Canada and abroad, with details available at legion.ca.
County services and closures
County Administration Buildings
All County administration buildings will be closed.
Emergency, Essential and Critical Services
Fire and Paramedic Services will continue to operate as usual.
Court Closures
The Provincial Offences Court at the Robinson Administration Building in Simcoe, will be closed.
Social Services and Housing
Simcoe and Dunnville offices will be closed. For crisis support, such as emergency accommodation, call the Victim Services Support Line at 1-800-264-6671.
Heritage and Culture
All museums and Norfolk County Archives will be closed.
Norfolk County Public Library
All branches are closed. However, all electronic and digital resources – including eBooks, audiobooks, online learning, and streaming movies and music – remain available 24/7 at ncpl.ca.
Recreation
Simcoe Recreation Centre, Simcoe Seniors’ Centre, Annaleise Carr Aquatic Centre, Delhi Friendship Centre, and all County arenas will be closed and the Delhi Afterschool program will be cancelled on Tuesday, November 11. Regular programming will resume Wednesday, November 12.
Ride Norfolk
Ride Norfolk will operate regular service hours. Buses will pull over from 10:59 a.m. to 11:01 a.m. to observe two minutes of silence.
ServiceNorfolk
ServiceNorfolk will be closed. Residents can submit non-urgent service requests or general inquiries anytime through Service.NorfolkCounty.ca.
For urgent issues related to forestry, parks and facilities, roads, water, sewer, waste, or drainage, please call 1-877-298-5888.
By-law concerns during the closure can be directed to the OPP non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122.
Transfer Stations
Transfer stations will be open regular hours.
Waste Collection
Waste collection remains unchanged. Residents are encouraged to use the Recycle Coach app for personalized reminders and schedules.
