Norfolk County celebrates May is Museum Month
Norfolk County is celebrating May is Museum Month, a provincewide program led by the Ontario Museum Association that recognizes the role museums play in preserving local history and supporting community life.
Museum Month highlights museums across Ontario and coincides with International Museum Day on May 18, which draws attention to the social, cultural, and economic value of museums in communities.
In Norfolk County, museums in Port Dover, Delhi, and Waterford, and the Archives in Simcoe, are marking the month with a mix of exhibits, events and ongoing programs that explore local history, art, sport, and heritage. Activities include guest speakers, live music, community programs, and temporary exhibits drawn from Norfolk County’s collections.
As part of the program, Norfolk County museums are also promoting youth participation through the Youth Volunteer and Mentorship Program, which offers young people opportunities to gain experience and support museum programming.
Norfolk County museums are open Wednesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the Norfolk County Archives are open Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is by donation.
