Norfolk County approves funding for hospital surgical suite upgrades
Norfolk County Council has approved $3 million in funding to support Norfolk General Hospital’s (NGH) project to modernize two operating rooms into advanced minimally invasive surgical (MIS) suites.
MIS suites are designed for procedures that use small cameras and specialized instruments instead of large incisions. This approach often means less pain, fewer complications, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery for patients. The upgrades will also introduce advanced technology, improve patient safety, and support the delivery of modern surgical care close to home.
This investment builds on a long-standing partnership between Norfolk County and NGH to strengthen local health care. In 2016, Norfolk County made a strategic decision to step in where provincial funding ends, supporting capital improvements at NGH. Today’s Council has honoured that commitment. This funding reflects Council’s strong dedication to building a healthier future for the community. Council is proud to play a role in making these improvements possible, because every resident deserves access to safe, modern care close to home. This project is an investment in people, families, and the strength of the community for years to come.
