New curbside waste collection program launches Monday, September 28

Norfolk County is reminding residents that its new curbside waste collection program launches on Monday, September 28, 2026, bringing changes to garbage collection, a new organics program, and new collection schedules across the municipality. The program will use the new grey garbage carts and green organics carts delivered to properties throughout August and September.

What is changing?

Beginning Monday, September 28:

Organic waste will be collected every week using the new green cart.
Recycling will continue to be collected every week using existing blue and black recycling boxes.
Garbage will be collected every other week (bi-weekly) using the new grey cart.
Only waste that fits completely inside the grey cart with the lid fully closed will be collected.
Garbage bags or other waste placed beside the cart will not be collected.

Residents are encouraged to begin using their green carts right when the program launches. Food scraps, food-soiled paper, and other accepted organic materials can be placed in the green cart, helping reduce the amount of waste sent to the landfill.

Changes to the collection schedule

All households will receive weekly recycling and weekly organics collection. Garbage collection will alternate between Week 1 and Week 2 service areas. Residents should confirm whether their property is in the Week 1 or Week 2 garbage collection zone before Monday, September 28. Some residents will also have a new collection day of the week under the new program.

A map showing the two zones was included in the information kit included with cart delivery. Residents can also look up their collection day and garbage collection week using the County's online collection schedule tool at norfolkcounty.ca/collectionDay or by contacting ServiceNorfolk.

Reminder to check inside the green organics cart for the kitchen container

Residents should check inside their green organics cart for the small kitchen container included with the program. The kitchen container is designed to make it easy to collect food scraps indoors and transfer them to the green cart for weekly organics collection.

Requests available starting September 28

Beginning September 28, residents and businesses can submit requests for:

Commercial waste collection registration
Waste program exemptions
A second garbage or green organics cart for eligible commercial and farm properties

Requests can be submitted online at norfolkcounty.ca/WasteChanges or through ServiceNorfolk.

Cart exchange requests will reopen on December 1, 2026, after residents have had an opportunity to use the new system and assess their needs.
