Fall urban yard waste collection expands to nine Norfolk hamlets
Norfolk County’s fall urban yard waste collection begins the week of October 19 and continues in all three collection zones through the week of November 23. This fall, curbside collection is also available in nine additional hamlets.
Yard waste is collected each week for the six-week fall collection period, on the regular waste collection day. To confirm a collection day, use the online address lookup tool or download the Recycle Coach app.
Collection areas
Urban yard waste collection is now available in all three collection zones. Bolded communities are new to the curbside collection program this fall.
- Zone 1: Long Point and Simcoe
- Zone 2: Port Dover, Langton, Port Rowan and Walsingham
- Zone 3: Turkey Point, Vittoria, St. Williams, Courtland, Delhi, Waterford, Booth’s Harbour (top of hill), Fernlea, Gilbertville, Lynedoch, Normandale, Pinegrove, Port Ryerse and Wilsonville
Preparing yard waste for collection
Yard waste must be placed curbside in brown paper leaf bags with the tops rolled shut. There is no bag limit, but each bag must weigh no more than 18 kg (40 lbs). Plastic bags will not be collected.
Yard waste, including leaves, should not be placed in the green organics cart.
Trimmings less than 2.5 cm (1”) in diameter can be tied or bundled in lengths of less than 91 cm (three feet). Plastic twine and metal ties cannot be used on bundles. Garbage, burnt leaves, flowerpots, and animal waste should not be included.
Leaves and grass clippings should be kept off streets and neighbouring properties, where they can block catch basins, create slippery conditions, and interfere with street sweeping. Leaves can instead be mulched for lawns, gardens, and flowerbeds, or composted at home.
Rural properties do not receive curbside yard waste collection. Yard waste can be taken to Norfolk County transfer stations free of charge in paper bags or in bulk for composting. Regular tipping fees apply to loads of brush and branches.
