Fall 2025 water main flushing begins this month

Norfolk staff will begin routine fall flushing of water mains throughout the County next week.

During a flush, hydrants are opened and allowed to flow in a controlled manner in one direction. This increased flow scours pipe walls, cleaning the sediment from inside the water mains.

The 2025 fall schedule is as follows:

•    Waterford: Monday, September 8 to Wednesday, September 17
•    Simcoe: Monday, September 15 to Friday, October 10
•    Port Rowan: Tuesday, October 14 to Friday, October 17
•    Delhi/Courtland: Tuesday, October 14 to Wednesday, October 29
•    Port Dover: Monday, November 3 to Friday, November 21

Watermain flushing helps to remove sediment from the watermain. During flushing period residents may notice changes in water colour. Should this occur, residents should run the first cold water tap after the water meter for 10 to 15 minutes or until the water clears.

Norfolk County appreciates residents’ cooperation and understanding as efforts are made to ensure water quality.
