Canada Post strike impacts Norfolk County services

Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) are currently on strike, resulting in a temporary suspension of postal services across the country. Norfolk County is advising residents and businesses to take immediate steps to avoid service disruptions and late payment penalties.

Property Tax Payments

Regardless of any postal disruptions, property owners are still required to make payments by the scheduled tax deadlines, which generally occur on the last business days of March, May, August, and October, with the next regular payment being due October 31, 2025.

For alternative payment methods, including online options, residents can visit norfolkcounty.ca/PayTax. Additionally, residents can monitor their property tax account status and sign up for eBilling by creating an account on Norfolk Virtual County Hall at norfolkcounty.ca/VCH and may consider using the Pre-Authorized Payment program to avoid late fees.

Water and Wastewater Payments

Property owners receiving water and wastewater services from the County are reminded that these payments are due as billed, even if there is a delay in receiving the physical bill. To view and pay these bills online, residents are encouraged to sign up for ERTH Solutions at erthsolutions.com

Provincial Offences Act Payments

In case of disruption, the Ontario Court of Justice may consider extending Provincial Offences Act timelines. Residents should check norfolkcounty.ca/provincial-offences-office/#Payment for updates and to access online payment options. Any changes in the mailing of Notices of Fine and Due Dates will be communicated as they become available.

Accounts Payable

Vendors should consider sending invoices by email to accounting@norfolkcounty.ca as an alternative to mail. Additionally, cheque payments from Norfolk County could be delayed. To ensure prompt payment, please consider signing up for EFT payment by contacting accounting@norfolkcounty.ca.

Accounts Receivable

Regardless of any postal disruptions, customers are still required to pay amounts due to Norfolk County by the due date indicated on their invoice.

To ensure that payment arrives to Norfolk County on time please consider paying at your bank or in-person at Service Norfolk. Payments made online, or telephone banking should select NORFOLK COUNTY INVOICES as the billing company.

When making payments through a financial institution for taxes, accounts receivable, or other Norfolk County charges, delays may occur due to banking system processing times. Norfolk County processes payments as received; however, payments may take several business days to arrive and could be subject to penalties if received after the due date. Residents are encouraged to submit payments in advance to avoid delays.

Planning Department

The Planning Department will continue to process time-sensitive materials such as development applications and notices by using courier services. Public notices required under the Planning Act will also be published in local newspapers to ensure residents remain informed.

Clerks Office

Essential documents, including Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, business licenses, and lottery-related correspondence, will be managed through private couriers if required to avoid delays. Departments may temporarily hold non-urgent items should the disruption continue.

Norfolk County remains focused on ensuring uninterrupted service delivery and reducing the impact of the postal disruption on residents and businesses. For the latest updates, visit norfolkcounty.ca, or connect with a ServiceNorfolk representative by calling 519-426-5870 or 226-NORFOLK, extension 0. To avoid delays, residents are encouraged to take advantage of digital services and set up automatic payment options wherever possible.
