Norfolk County is seeking provincial support to repurpose unused CN Rail lands in Courtland for industrial development, infrastructure expansion, and economic growth, positioning the area as a strategic hub for new business investment and food sector innovation.
Where we're at
Norfolk County has expressed interest in discontinuing CN Rail Corridor Lands at Courtland Area mile markers 87.27 to 89.7. Council adopted a new Official Plan Amendment identifying this area as a key growth node for industrial employment and residential development. The rail corridor's proximity to these newly designated lands has elevated its strategic value, both in terms of infrastructure potential and regional economic development.
The unused CN rail corridor presents a unique and time-sensitive opportunity to secure a linear tract of land that can serve multiple critical functions. The proposed new industrial park in Courtland would benefit from a dedicated utility corridor for infrastructure – the former CN rail land would be ideal for moving the industrial park forward.
Norfolk asks that the Province:
- Invest in new and expanding businesses in the new industrial parks
- Support to increase hydro capacity and facilitate development
- Market Norfolk County as “Ontario’s Garden,” leveraging us as a food hub
- Explore opportunities to divest certain municipal buildings to local partners for revitalization and community use.
- Support partnerships that improve downtown infrastructure and deliver community-level resources.
- Align funding and collaboration efforts with Norfolk’s economic development, tourism, and cultural priorities.
Norfolk is ready.
We can grow Ontario, together.
