Norfolk County seeks Ministry support to advance Fanshawe’s Strategic Plan, improve campus access through transit enhancements, and secure funding for rural education initiatives to expand programs and services.

Where we're at

Norfolk County is seeking the Ministry’s support in advancing the implementation of Fanshawe College’s Strategic Plan, specifically regarding our region’s goals for workforce development, economic growth, and improved access to post-secondary education.

Fanshawe College currently serves more than 43,000 students across its four main locations, with Norfolk proudly hosting one of these campuses. The College has identified Norfolk as a key area for future growth in both program delivery and student recruitment, an objective that aligns directly with Norfolk County’s priority to expand education and training opportunities within the community.
This strategic alignment presents an opportunity to address critical labour shortages and build a strong local talent pipeline, particularly in the agricultural, healthcare, and skilled trades sectors. A stronger Fanshawe presence in Norfolk will help meet employers' demands while supporting youth retention and long-term economic stability.

Norfolk County is committed to facilitating this growth by supporting initiatives that enhance student experience and improve access to the Norfolk campus. One such initiative is the development of a Transit Master Plan that includes tailored service improvements to the Fanshawe site. Enhanced transit options will reduce transportation barriers, attract and retain more students, support inclusive access to education, and increase ridership and sustainability of our public transit system.

With the Ministry’s engagement, we can strengthen the connection between post-secondary education and local economic needs, while ensuring that residents of Norfolk and surrounding communities have meaningful, accessible educational pathways to success.

Norfolk asks that the Province:

• Advances the implementation of Fanshawe College’s Strategic Plan in Norfolk County.
• Supports capital and operational needs tied to program expansion and student services in Norfolk County.
• Collaborates with Norfolk County and Fanshawe College to identify funding and policy tools that support rural campus growth and regional workforce development.
