As the result of vehicular impact with the Simcoe branch of the Norfolk County Public Library late on May 23, the library will temporarily be closed.

The southwest corner of the building has sustained significant structural damage. While there is no immediate threat to public safety, temporary shoring will be installed to support the second floor and roof, based on the structural engineer’s recommendation.

Out of an abundance of caution, the building will remain closed to the public until at least May 30, with library management reassessing over the coming days if further closure is necessary.

Following the engineer’s report, the Norfolk County Building Department will work with the engineer, insurer, restoration company, and appropriate staff to monitor the repair process and ensure all life safety practices have been implemented.

All other Norfolk County Public Library branches will remain open during their usual business hours. A variety of online resources and digital libraries are also available at ncpl.ca.
