Norfolk County will join Canadians across the country on Remembrance Day, Monday, November 11, 2024, to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who have served and continue to serve our country during times of war, military conflict, and peace.
Remembrance Day Ceremonies
Residents are encouraged to join a local ceremony or take a moment to remember and reflect on the contributions of our veterans and active service members. Services will be held in communities across Norfolk County.
November 10
- Fairground: Cenotaph – 11:00 a.m.
- Teeterville: The Wagner Memorial, Teeterville Legion Branch 526 – 1:30 p.m.
November 11
- Delhi: Cenotaph on King Street – 11:00 a.m.
- Port Dover: Cenotaph in Powell Park – 11:00 a.m.
- Port Rowan: Cenotaph on Lakeshore Rd, West of Ellis St. – 11:00 a.m.
- Simcoe: Carillon Tower – 11:00 a.m.
- St. Williams: Cenotaph on Townline St. and Queen St. – 11:30 a.m.
- Waterford: Cenotaph at Old Town Hall – 11:00 a.m.
County services and closures
Many Norfolk County facilities and services will observe closures in observance of Remembrance Day on Monday, November 11.
Norfolk County Administration Buildings
All buildings will be closed.
Norfolk County Public Library
All branches closed.
Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit
All branches will be closed. For public health emergencies or hazards, such as outbreaks, food poisoning, meningitis, or rabies, please call our after-hours emergency phone number at 1-877-298-5888.
Social Services and Housing
Simcoe and Dunnville offices closed. For crisis support, such as emergency accommodation, call the Victim Services Support Line at 1-800-264-6671.
Recreation
Simcoe Recreation Centre, Simcoe Seniors’ Centre, Annaleise Carr Aquatic Centre, Delhi Friendship Centre, and all County arenas closed Monday, November 11, with regular programming resuming Tuesday, November 12.
Heritage and Culture
All museums and Norfolk County Archives will be closed.
Ride Norfolk
Ride Norfolk will operate as usual; however, the buses will pull over from 10:59 a.m. to 11:01 a.m. to observe two minutes of silence.
ServiceNorfolk
ServiceNorfolk will be closed. Residents can use the Norfolk County Customer Service Portal online to submit non-urgent service requests, at any time. Alternately, residents can email [email protected]. Staff will reply to emails in a priority sequence when offices reopen.
Residents seeking emergency assistance regarding forestry, parks and facilities, public health, roads, water, sewer, and drainage, can call 1-877-298-5888.
For after-hours By-law Enforcement, the public may use the OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) non-emergency line number at 1-888-310-1122.
Transfer Stations
Transfer stations will be open regular hours.
Waste Collection
Waste collection remains unchanged. Residents are encouraged to use the Recycle Coach app for instant access to their area’s collection schedule, personalized reminders, and more. The app is available on the iTunes Store and the Google Play Store and is free of charge.
Essential and Critical Services
All essential and critical services, including Fire and Paramedic Services, will continue to operate as usual.
