Climate change is an issue that is being experienced around the world. Action is critical to protect our communities, individual health, and environment, while laying the foundation for a more prosperous and sustainable future. In response to this, Norfolk County has developed a Climate Change Adaptation plan which:

  • Identifies the impacts of climate change that are currently being experienced or could be an issue in the future.
  • Identifies what changes, whether physical, planning, process, or communication, could help avoid the negative impacts of climate change.
  • Establishes a foundation of understanding and commitment from stakeholders and the community to support community change and action.
  • Develops an action plan and implementation strategy to help guide staff and decision makers in future climate-related adaptation actions and measures.

“The Norfolk County Climate Change Adaptation Plan has been developed with the goal of creating a climate resilient, community focused strategy which addresses the long-term needs and priorities of Norfolk County residents, businesses, agencies and visitors,” said Michael Simoes, Norfolk County Climate Change Adaptation Committee chair. “The proposed plan, when implemented, will provide Norfolk County and its partners with the support and tools needed to improve Norfolk County’s long-term sustainability.”

A draft of the Norfolk County Climate Change Adaptation Plan is now available for your review and the Norfolk County Climate Change Committee is looking for feedback from you, the people who live, work and play within Norfolk County.
