As playgrounds re-open as part of Stage 3 of Ontario’s re-opening plan, Norfolk County is reminding residents to stay vigilant about COVID-19 as children return to play.

Here are some tips on how to stay safer when children return to play.

  • Monitor your health and stay home if you or a family member don’t feel well or are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow.
  • Continue to practice social distancing with those not in your social circle. Maintain a physical distance of at least six feet (two metres.)
  • Do not gather in groups. Stay out of crowded places and avoid mass gatherings.
  • Come back to play at another time if the playground is too crowded to maintain physical distancing.
  • Children and adults should wash their hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and/or sanitize hands BEFORE and AFTER using the playground. Be especially vigilant after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.

Norfolk County closed the playgrounds in March in response to the state of emergency declared by Ontario. The County continues to work in partnership with the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit as it works to prepare facilities to safely re-open. More information will be shared as it becomes available.
