Swimming lessons are starting again and we want to ensure everyone is safe in the building, around the deck, and in the water.

Please note that due to the pandemic and the priority to ensure the health and safety of staff and the community, we will be offering lessons with additional new safety protocols in place.

Swimming lessons will be modified to follow guidelines and health precautions as set out by the Ontario Government and the Lifesaving Society.

All lessons will be taught by a qualified Lifesaving Instructor.


Registration Information and Refund Guidelines

Registration for Swimming Lessons for Spring 2021 is now open. Register via NORA, by calling 519-426-8866 Ext 2233. 

Cancellations of swim lessons will be permitted up to one week prior to the start date.

There will be NO REFUNDS or pro-rated credits once the program begins unless Norfolk County cancels a program.

Designed for the 4 to 24 month old to learn and enjoy the water with the parent. Spend quality time with your child while you both have fun and learn. Through structured in-water interaction between parent & child, we stress the importance of play in developing water-positive attitude and skills. Swimming lessons will be modified to follow guidelines & health precautions as set out by the Province of Ontario, public health and the Life Saving Society. All lessons will be taught by a qualified Lifesaving Instructor. All lessons will be 30 minutes long. Missed lessons will not be rescheduled. Child to parent ratio must be 1:1. Swim Diapers are required for all children under the age of 3.

Preschool 1

Ages 3 – 5. These preschoolers will have fun learning to get in and out of the water. We’ll help them jump into chest deep water. They’ll float and glide on their front and back, and learn to get their face wet and blow bubbles underwater. Swimming lessons will be modified to follow guidelines & health precautions as set out by the Province of Ontario, public health and the Life Saving Society. All lessons will be taught by a qualified Lifesaving Instructor. Parent to Child ratio is 1:1 A parent must accompany their child in the pool. All lessons will be 30 minutes long. Missed lessons will not be rescheduled.  Children 3 years of age and under and swimmers over 3 who are not toilet trained, MUST wear a swim diaper. Swim diapers are available for children under the age of 3 at the customer service desk.

Preschool 2

Ages 3 – 5. These preschoolers learn to jump into chest deep water and get in and out wearing a life jacket, float & glide on their front & back and learn to get their face wet. Swimming lessons will be modified to follow guidelines & health precautions as set out by the Province of Ontario, public health and the Life Saving Society. All lessons will be taught by a qualified Lifesaving Instructor. Parent to Child ratio is 1:1 A parent must accompany their child in the pool. All lessons will be 30 minutes long. Children 3 years of age and under and swimmers over 3 who are not toilet trained, MUST wear a swim diaper. Swim diapers are available for children under the age of 3 at the customer service desk.

These youngsters will try both jumping and a sideways entry into deep water while wearing a life jacket. They’ll recover objects from the bottom in waist-deep water. They’ll work on kicking and gliding through the water on their front and back. Swimming lessons will be modified to follow guidelines & health precautions as set out by the Province of Ontario, public health and the Life Saving Society. All lessons will be taught by a qualified Lifesaving Instructor. Parent to Child ratio is 1:1 and a parent must accompany their child in the pool up to Swimmer Level 3. Missed lessons will not be rescheduled. There will be NO REFUNDS, or credits due to missed lessons. Children 3 years of age and under and swimmers over 3 (including adults) who are not toilet trained, MUST wear a swim diaper. Swim diapers are available for children under the age of 3 at the customer service desk.

Swimmer 1

Age 5 & Older – These beginners will become comfortable jumping into water with and without a life jacket. They’ll learn to open their eyes, exhale and hold their breath underwater. They’ll work on floats, glides and kicking through water on their front and back. Swimming lessons will be modified to follow guidelines & health precautions as set out by the Province of Ontario, public health and the Life Saving Society. All lessons will be taught by a qualified Lifesaving Instructor. Parent to Child ratio is 1:1 and a parent must accompany their child in the pool up to Swimmer Level 3. Missed lessons will not be rescheduled. There will be NO REFUNDS, or credits due to missed lessons.

Swimmer 2

Age 5 & Older – These advanced beginners will jump into deeper water, and learn to be comfortable falling sideways into the water wearing a life jacket. They’ll be able to support themselves at the surface without an aid, learn whip kick, swim 10 m on their front and back, and be introduced to flutter kick interval training (4 x 5 m). Swimming lessons will be modified to follow guidelines & health precautions as set out by the Province of Ontario, public health and the Life Saving Society. All lessons will be taught by a qualified Lifesaving Instructor.

Swimmer 3

Age 5 & Older —   These junior swimmers will dive, do in-water front somersaults, and handstands. They’ll work on 15 m of front crawl, back crawl and 10 m of whip kick. Flutter kick interval training increases to 4 x 15 m. Swimming lessons will be modified to follow guidelines & health precautions as set out by the Province of Ontario, public health and the Life Saving Society. All lessons will be taught by a qualified Lifesaving Instructor.

Swimmer 4

These intermediate swimmers will swim 5 m underwater and lengths of front, back crawl, whip kick, and breaststroke arms with breathing. Their new bag of tricks includes the completion of the Canadian Swim to Survive® Standard. They’ll cap it off with front crawl sprints over 25 m and 4 x 5 m front or back crawl interval training. Swimming lessons will be modified to follow guidelines & health precautions as set out by the Province of Ontario, public health and the Life Saving Society. All lessons will be taught by a qualified Lifesaving Instructor.

Swimmer 5/6

Swimmer 5—   These swimmers will master shallow dives, cannonball entries, eggbeater kicks, and in-water backward somersaults. They’ll refine their front and back crawl over 50 m swims of each, and breaststroke over 25 m. Then they’ll pick up the pace in 25 m sprints and two interval training bouts: 4 x 50 m front or back crawl; and 4 x 15 breaststroke. Swimmer 6—  These advanced swimmers will rise to the challenge of sophisticated aquatic skills including stride entries, compact jumps and lifesaving kicks like eggbeater and scissor kick. They’ll develop strength and power in head-up breaststroke sprints over 25 m. They’ll easily swim lengths of front crawl, back crawl, and breaststroke, and they’ll complain about the 300 m workout. Swimming lessons will be modified to follow guidelines & health precautions as set out by the Province of Ontario, public health and the Life Saving Society. All lessons will be taught by a qualified Lifesaving Instructor.

COVID-19 Safety Protocols for Swimming Lessons

When You Arrive

Change Rooms and Personal Belongings

  • Change room space is extremely limited and showers are unavailable, so please shower and change into your bathing suit before you arrive.  Upon arrival you will be assigned a change room.
  • Please bring indoor or deck shoes to wear in the change room and on the pool deck. Outdoor shoes will be put in the cubbies provided in the pool lobby.
  • On the first lesson you will be assigned a chair on deck to put your belongings, this will be your spot for the session.
  • Lockers are not available at this time.
  • Physical distancing is to be maintained at all times.

Parental Involvement

  • A parent or guardian must be in the water with their child to provide physical support and manipulation for the following levels: Preschool, levels 1 – 5 and Swimmer levels 1 – 3.  This also applies to private lessons for these levels.
  • To ensure continuity, the same parent or guardian should attend each class.

 

Instructor and Participant Safety

  • All instructors will teach lessons at a distance to allow participants and staff to maintain physical distancing.
  • Instructors will teach from the deck while still performing in water demonstrations.
  • Limited equipment will be used and sanitized after each class.
  • Equipment for lessons will be placed in a designated basket at each participant location.

After Lessons

  • Go to your chair on deck and put your mask back on.
  • Hand sanitizer is available to use before entering the change room.
  • Change out of your wet bathing suit and sanitize your hands at the exit by the family change room.

If swim diapers are required, you can purchase them upon arrival at the Annaleise Carr Aquatic Centre. Debit or credit card payment is preferred.
