Covid-19 Status

Norfolk County has declared that the Constable John Verral Memorial Bridge Replacement project is an essential project.  Work is proceeding under this declaration.  The contractor will be required to provide a Covid-19 Health and Safety Policy for completing this work under current recommended guidelines.  This includes social distancing both with other crew members and the public who may approach the job site.  We respectfully request that this social distancing be reciprocated by the public towards crew members on site.

Project Description

The Constable John Verral Memorial Bridge located on Queensway East (Hwy 3), which spans the Lynn River in the town of Simcoe, will be replaced with a new 5 lane bridge using a 2-staged construction approach.  Stage 1 construction – south half of bridge, Stage 2 construction – north half of bridge.

The work will include the full replacement of the bridge superstructure, sidewalk replacement, reinstatement of the pedestrian path under the bridge, storm sewer outlet replacement, road and asphalt restoration, and associated traffic control.

Information for the Public

Traffic Management

In order to expedite the work in a safe environment, pedestrian and vehicle traffic management restrictions will be in effect. During construction, one eastbound lane, one westbound lane, and access to all residences and businesses will be maintained, however, some traffic movements (e.g.: left turns in and out) may not be permitted within the construction traffic management zone. Access to entrances on the north side of Queensway East from Norfolk Street to Gilbertson Drive will be accessed by right turns from the westbound lane only.  Additional signage to assist in directing vehicular traffic will be in place.

Garbage and recycling collection services will remain the same.  Please have your garbage and recycling curbside by 7:00 am the day of your regular collection schedule. Municipal addresses should be labeled on all recycling boxes so that they may be returned to the correct address.
