Groundwater is the sole water supply source for the Community of Simcoe. The water is drawn from nine wells and an infiltration gallery/well system. Maximum daily water supply requirements for the community are expected to increase and additional sources are required to augment these existing sources. In 2010, Norfolk County completed a groundwater investigation to evaluate the potential of developing a groundwater source capable of providing the anticipated additional capacity. The main conclusion of the final report was that a groundwater supply could be developed from a location northeast of Simcoe to meet the required additional supply.
Class EA Study
The Corporation of Norfolk County has initiated a study to identify, evaluate, and document are recommended solution for new supply sources in the identified study area with consideration for environmental, cultural, social, natural, technical, and economic factors. This study is being developed as a Schedule “B” Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) under Ontario’s Environmental Assessment Act. A Notice of Study Commencement was issued in November 2010.
Public involvement is an important part of the Class EA process. Residents and community organizations are encouraged to participate by providing their comments to the contacts identified below. A Public Information Centre (PIC) was held on November 30, 2011 to provide information and respond to questions. A copy of the displays presented at the PIC can be downloaded.
Please contact either of the following team members if you would like more information or to be added to the mailing list to receive direct notice of future study events.
