Feb. 5, 2020, Simcoe, ON – With snow and freezing rain expected throughout the lower Great Lakes region late Wednesday and Thursday, Norfolk County is reminding residents to clear snow and ice from the sidewalks around their property by noon the day after a storm.

The County issued more than 50 orders to comply with its snow-clearing bylaw between January 20 and 24.

Those who don’t will be charged the cost of snow removal services provided by an external contractor.

Removing snow and ice from sidewalks means fewer slips and falls, and allows seniors and those with mobility issues to continue to be active after a storm.

Snow must not be cleared onto the street, as this creates safety issues for drivers.

Residents are also asked to avoid parking on the road after a snowfall, if possible, to facilitate plowing.
