Local Foods Project Recipe Challenge Video now on YouTube

A leader in promoting locally grown food, Norfolk County expanded its work into the County’s health care facilities. Norfolk County’s Local Foods to Health Care Facilities Project was funded by the Greenbelt Fund, a sister organization of the Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation.

Norfolk County’s Local Foods for Health Care Facilities Project has drawn to a close; Project Coordinator Jane Dummer reported to Norfolk County Council on Tuesday night and presented the Recipe Challenge video.

“The Recipe Challenge video is a great snapshot of the project,” explains Dummer. Chefs from the health care facilities competed in a Local Food Recipe challenge to create three local dishes and raise awareness about the project. The winning recipe, Beef Stew, is now being served at Norview Lodge to their Residents.

This project has raised awareness with local growers. It has given smaller, local growers another option/channel to consider for their products.  VG Meats, a project partner, has worked in collaboration with the health care partners replacing many protein items on the menu.

The video created from the Recipe Challenge is available on Norfolk County’s YouTube Channel, youtube.com/norfolkcounty, and is part of the final communication package for the project partners.
