Simcoe, On – April 24, 2015 Hereabouts: Photographs of Norfolk County, an exhibition currently mounted at the Norfolk Arts Centre, has been extended until Friday, May 22nd. This is a joint exhibition consisting of 42 images that were photographed and personally printed by husband and wife duo, Larry Monczka and Kathleen Pickard. The photographs are thematically paired, with each set of images presenting a personal interpretation of an aspect of Norfolk County’s natural and man-made features. In other words, each pair of photos demonstrates what he saw and what she saw. The subject matter is diverse, ranging from iconic tobacco kiln structures to detailed images of the sandy shores of Lake Erie.

A unique bookwork for Hereabouts, unites the exhibition photography with joint narrative that reveals subtle technique and candid observational notes. The bookwork enforces the pleasure of an intimate conversation. From one page Kathleen recalls “This stone has borne the toils of winter…while Larry views the “…fleeting miniature abstraction …from unsettled weather often leads to visually interesting situations.”

Both photographers live in the lovely hamlet of Port Ryerse. They have been visually exploring Norfolk with their cameras since 1998. By presenting dual visions of a common theme Kathy and Larry allow others to share their individual perceptions of the special but often unnoticed features to be found in Norfolk County.

Hereabouts will be on exhibition at the Norfolk Arts Centre until Friday, May 22nd. Gallery hours are Monday – Friday, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, and Saturdays, May 2nd, 16th and 30th, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.
