DELHI, ON – November 4, 2016 – A ground breaking ceremony is planned to take place at the Delhi Branch, Norfolk County Public Library on Saturday November 12 at 2 p.m. This ceremony will be held outdoors at the current location of the Delhi Branch, 192 Main Street, Delhi. All are welcome to attend. Norfolk County Council has approved a budget of $1.7 million for this expansion and renovation project.
When the project is completed the expanded library will include an addition of 3,000 square feet; upgrades to the existing 4,000 square feet main floor; new technology devices such as iPads and chrome books for patrons to use in the library; a makerspace lab that will house a 3-D printer and other cutting edge technology; a programming room that can be accessed after hours; accessible kitchen and washroom facilities; expanded collections of books including multi-lingual editions; space for programs, tutoring and meetings; display cabinets to showcase community activities and heritage items; plus accessible parking.
Thomas Morrison, Chair of the Norfolk County Public Library says, “ The renovation and expansion project for the Delhi Branch will serve the residents of Delhi and surrounding community with a modern library facility. The updated façade and addition will also make a vibrant statement for Main Street of Delhi. This project will be a positive catalyst for our library services and will support our new slogan, NCPL …More than books!” It is anticipated that the build will be completed by September 2017.
A dedicated group of library patrons from Delhi, led by Ron Klein, has put together a plan to raise $200,000 towards the project. These funds will be applied to the overall cost of the renovation and expansion.
Norfolk County has also been approved to receive $100,000 from the Federal governments Canada 150 infrastructure program. Additional grant applications have been submitted for Provincial programs and local foundations.
