SIMCOE, ON – March 16, 2016 – Early Wednesday afternoon Mayor Charlie Luke stated, “Norfolk County has followed the law applicable to the sale of properties for tax arrears”. Norfolk County Treasurer, John Ford, also clarified that “The law provides that a party that has a valid legal interest in the property, registered on title (referred to in law as an interested party) may redeem the property from the tax sale process by paying the entire balance of outstanding taxes, interest, penalties and charges”.

Ford also stated, “Following the law has protected Norfolk County from exposure to any possible legal action by that interested party and any other interested party that had the same valid legal interest, registered on title, for the property”.

Following the law applicable to the sale of properties for tax arrears required Norfolk County to decline the bid and refund the deposit paid by another party that bid on the property at tax sale.

Mayor Luke has also advised that “At this time, the County is not aware of any legal action in court by any party involved in this matter and there are no outstanding property taxes”. Currently the property is listed and advertised for sale. Norfolk County suggests any requests for information about the property listing should be directed to the realtor.
