Simcoe, ON – March 8, 2016 – Norfolk County has an employee suggestion program under its Staff Recognition Policy (HR-18). The purpose of this program is to support innovative, creative ideas, problem solving and to publicly promote the manner in which Norfolk County works to implement and encourage new ideas and values to their employees.

Over the course of 2015, a total of 20 suggestions were received through one of three means:
– Senior Leadership Team,
– Norview Lodge, and
– Health & Social Services Department.

The Senior Leadership Team reviewed all of these suggestions and based on a number of criteria, five of these suggestions have been identified as the best for 2015. The criteria utilized are:

–    efficiencies in health & safety,
–    monetary savings
–    improved employee morale
–    organizational (changes to improve County programs)

For each of the four noted suggestions, the employees have been notified and have agreed to be acknowledged on:

Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at the Norfolk County Council Chambers at 5 p.m.

All staff members, who have submitted suggestions, are also thanked for submitting suggestions that helped to generate improvements in the County’s overall operations. The best employee suggestions for 2015 are summarized below, in no particular order:

Carrie Pope
­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Personal Support Worker, Norview Lodge, Health & Social Services Department
For submitting an employee suggestion that resulted in:   Health & Safety Improvement, by installing black toilet seats in bathrooms in Spruce Court as a more noticeable visual aid for residents.

Maureen DeBathe
Revenue Assessment Clerk, Revenue and Taxation Division, Financial Services Department
For submitting an employee suggestion that resulted in:  Time Saving and Customer Service Improvement, by adding the County’s reception extensions to the internal electronic telephone book to assist staff to direct calls to the appropriate location.

Michelle Smith
Resident Care Coordinator, Norview Lodge, Health & Social Services Department
For submitting an employee suggestion that resulted in:  Communication and Health & Safety Improvement, by providing an additional document holder on doors to rooms housing two residents.

And, for submitting an employee suggestion that resulted in: Time-saving and Safety Improvement, by organizing the components and instructions for curbell fall alert alarms.
