SIMCOE, ON – On May 13th, 2015 at ‘Canada’s Largest Literary Event for Children and Teens’ Norfolk’s very own Annaleise Carr and Deborah Ellis were awarded the iconic Silver Birch Non Fiction Award of the Forest of Reading program. ‘Annaleise Carr: How I Conquered Lake Ontario to Help Kids Battling Cancer’ was amongst the ten nominees in the Silver Birch category that is for readers aged 8 to 12 from grades 3-6.
‘The Forest of Reading is Canada’s largest recreational reading program – more than 250,000 readers participate every year individually, or at their school or public library. This initiative offers eight reading programs for all ages, and each program consists of popular Canadian fiction and non-fiction titles. It is a Canada-wide program that was launched by the Ontario Library Association, but it is intended for readers across the country and those in Canadian international schools. The Forest occupies a major place of prominence in Canada’s literary landscape and encourages a love of reading in people of all ages.’
