Norfolk-Norwich World Gathering 2009 Print E-mail
There’s no place like home… and to members of the Norfolk-Norwich World Family, if it’s named Norfolk or Norwich, it’s home. There are fifty-eight (58) towns, counties, cities or communities throughout the world named Norfolk or Norwich. This is our world family. It all started when people left Norfolk and Norwich, England to explore and settle a new world.

The city of Norwich, located in Southeastern Connecticut, will be hosting members of the Norfolk-Norwich World Family at its Semiseptcentennial Celebration, scheduled for June and July 2009. The semiseptcentennial equates to 350 years of culture, history, and heritage – fun for any family that considers Norwich home.

The official “World Gathering”, as it is called, takes place July 1st through July 5th. It will highlight not just Norwich, “The Rose of New England,” but also the seafaring traditions of Mystic Seaport. For a taste of the past and present, attendees will meet with members of the Mohegan Tribal Nation who sold the early settlers this parcel of land we now call home. Members of our world family will tour the Mohegan museum and the world renowned Mohegan Sun Casino. Mayor Ben Lathrop will be hosting a formal reception for the World Family on July 4th and everyone is invited to be a part of our July 5th parade commemorating 350 years of historical Norwich, Connecticut.
