44 HARBOUR ST. PORT DOVER - STEPS FROM THE PIER

"If there were an award for the best small-town museum in Canada , this would surely be a candidate. It's crammed with artifacts from Great Lakes shipping, and has insightful commentary, plus plenty of hands-on displays.”

"One of the most interesting and friendly small-town museums in Ontario."
Harvey Currell – Toronto Sun

The Port Dover Harbour Museum is partially housed in an original fisherman's net shanty. This section is dedicated to the story of Port Dover's fishing industry, which continues to be an important part of local life. The galleries in our modern addition present exhibits on the days of commercial sail as well as Lake Erie Shipwrecks, Ship Building, Long Point, Rum running, and other aspects of lakeside life in this unique community. The museum is also active in the preservation and presentation of local folklore and living traditions, particularly in the areas of fishing and lakeside history. This has been realized through such ventures as the Maritime Music Concerts, Northshore Home Movie Festival, as well as through exhibits, lectures and special events. Since 2002, the museum has been the home to a major collection of artifacts from the 1852 wreck of the Steamer Atlantic.
